Hadestown

Hadestown

This week’s blog is dedicated to a show that not many people have heard of based on the poll. It’s called Hadestown. Hadestown is the fourth album by Anais Mitchell, and it follows the Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice. The show is about Orpheus who has to save his wife Eurydice from Hades.

Act 1
The show opens in a depression era post-apocalyptic setting. The show opens with the three Fates describing the setting and introduce the characters. The next scene leaves Orpheus and Eurydice, who introduce themselves to each other. He wants to marry her, but she is hesitant because they both live in poverty, but he says his music can provide for her.

Next Orpheus tells us the story of Hades and Persephone. Persephone enters to celebrate the summer with Orpheus and Eurydice. He makes a toast and expresses hope for his future with Eurydice.

Winter comes and a train comes to take Persephone back to Hadestown. The other two watch as she voices her misery at having to return to the factory. Orpheus condemns Hade's treatment of his workers. Eurydice is intrigued, and as Winter progresses Eurydice urges Orpheus to work so they have food and shelter. At the same time, Persephone and Hades have a fight.

Hades leaves the Factory and comes across Eurydice. Orpheus is working on his music, so Eurydice follows Hades to the factory.

Act 2
Act 2 opens with Persephone introducing her band, and serving drinks to the audience. Eurydice sees the true consequences of her actions by entering Hadestown. She can never leave unless Hades lets her go.

Orpheus has made his way down to Hadestown after following Hermes. Eurydice and the Fates say that she is bounded by Hades. The fates say that Orpheus should give up trying to save Eurydice. Persephone tells Hades to let Eurydice go after being touched by Orpheus’ s music.

Hermes explains the decision to Orpheus and Eurydice who discuss their doubts. Orpheus begins to walk out of Hadestown with Eurydice following him. By following him she has been condemned to Hadestown forever.

Albums
There are two the one Anais made, and the live one that came out recently.

Top Ten Tuesday- characters that remind me of myself

Welcome back to Top Ten Tuesday! This is a weekly meme where readers discuss ten or whatever number you would like to have based on a prompt. Our host is Jana at  thatartsyreadergirl . Our topic this week is Characters Like Myself. I am going to take a two words that each character has in in my opinion,  and discuss how that relates to me  as well. 1- Cather Avery from Fangirl Writer- At her core, Cath is a writer, and she loves her stories. I am a writer of both Fan Fiction and original stories like Cath so this was an automatic in for this. Both of us love our work and we tend to through ourselves whole hardheartedly into our work. Sisters- I might have mentioned this on the blog before but I have a younger sister and we’re only roughly 18 months a part. Cath and her twin sister Wren are polar  opposites and this is me and my sister. My younger sister is an extrovert and into science. I on the other hand,  am an introverted creative bookworm.  2- Miriam Kendrick from C

Each week, Jana posts a topic, and we readers respond based on that prompt. This week our topic is a freebie, so I decided to make my list of my top ten reads part one.   Middle Grade 12- Never After by Melissa de la Cruz I'm almost done with this book. It's a duology, and I loved the new twist on fairy tales.    YA 13- Don’t Read the Comments by Eric Smith I read this early in the year and it stuck with me. This YA Contemporary about gaming and the culture of the gaming industry was fantastic.  14- The Book Thief by Markus Zusak It took me years to read this book but I really enjoyed it. I love the unique narrator, the characters, and the story.  15- The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas This is another backlist release. I loved this book, and I knew when I read it that it had the potential to be on this list. I still thi

Top Ten Tuesday-- Favorite Places to read

Hi! Welcome back to Top Ten Tuesday. Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme Jana hosts @ thatartsyreadergirl This weekly meme was born out of a love of lists, and bringing the book blogging community together. Each Week, Jana will post a prompt, and we readers will post our list as a reply. We also have the option of going rogue, and posting a topic of our own choosing or a past topic. This week out topic is favorite places to read.   1- At my desk   I read a lot in my room and at my desk. I’m trying to find another method because I tend to stop reading and look at a notification that distracts me. I enjoy reading at my desk because it’s easy.  2- In bed I need to be wide awake to read in bed, but I might start doing it more. Reading in bed is less distracting for me, but it still can make me tired. 3- In the car Some weeks I spend a lot of time in the car. When I’m in the the car I’ll try to read a chapter or two, but it sends up being more like 3-4 depending on how long the car ride is.
