Hi! I took an unexpected hiatus last week, but I’m back today. Can't-Wait Wednesday is hosted by Tressa @wishfulendings. This meme is an offshoot of Waiting on Wednesday, which was hosted by Jill @breakingthespine. The purpose of this meme is to feature a book usually unpublished, that we can’t to read. This week I’m featuring The Chance to Fly by debut author Ali Stroker and author Stacy Davidowitz. All information comes from Goodreads.

Thirteen-year-old Nat Beacon loves a lot of things: her dog Warbucks, her best friend Chloe, and competing on her wheelchair racing team, the Zoomers, to name a few. But there’s one thing she’s absolutely OBSESSED with: MUSICALS! From Hamilton to Les Mis, there’s not a cast album she hasn’t memorized and belted along to. She’s never actually been in a musical though, or even seen an actor who uses a wheelchair for mobility on stage. Would someone like Nat ever get cast?

But when Nat’s family moves from California to New Jersey, Nat stumbles upon auditions for a kids’ production of Wicked, one of her favorite musicals ever! And she gets into the ensemble! The other cast members are super cool and inclusive (well, most of them)— especially Malik, the male lead and cutest boy Nat’s ever seen. But when things go awry a week before opening night, will Nat be able to cast her fears and insecurities aside and “Defy Gravity” in every sense of the song title?


Why I want to read this

 I have enjoyed Ali as a performer since her days on the Glee Project. I’ve followed her career since then, although I haven’t seen her in anything yet. The second reason is that this is a theatre story, and you all know me, I will pick up anything that has theatre as the main plot, or as part of the plot. Third, I think that Middle Grade is doing great things, and I can’t wait to read this story.

    This is a cute sounding middle grade book. I'll have to make sure the middle school librarians in my district know about it. Great pick!

      I feel like a lot of middle graders, especially ones into the arts or those in wheelchairs will love it.

    I love the sound of this one. I enjoyed Ali on the Glee Project, too, so I'm definitely adding this to my wishlist. Thanks for sharing! :)

    I bet my daughter (and me too!) would love this. We both really like musicals. I like that the protagonist is in a wheelchair (something I wish we'd see more of in literature) and I know my daughter would love theater aspect. Adding this to my wish list right now! Thank you!

Top Ten Tuesday- characters that remind me of myself

Top Ten Tuesday - Unpopular Bookish opinions

Welcome Back! Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by  thatartsyreadergirl . This week the top is unpopular bookish opinions, was submitted by Kaitlin Galvan at  somehowimanageablog . I don't think I have that many unpopular opinions, but We'll see if I can get to ten. I do not mean this to be a personal attack. I know some of these will get into beloved areas of book community, so take these as just my opinions. 1- I have only read one Harry Potter book, and will probably never read the rest.
