What I'm doing during social distancing (discussion)

Hi! This is one idea I’ve had for a while and I wanted to take the time today to talk about it. I’m enjoying a lot of things during this time of social distancing, and so I will fill this post with recommendations. Before I get started, I know that my interests are very particular and not for everyone.

What I’m watching

Stars in the House (every day at 2 and  8 PM ET on The Actors Fund YouTube channel)  - recommend episodes- Kristin Chenoweth, Lea Salonga, the Stephen Sondheim, and Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber celebrations.

The biggest thing I’ve been enjoying right now is Stars in the House. This twice-daily concert series is filling the Broadway void in my heart until Broadway opens again. Not only do you get free concerts, but they’re also starting to do TV reunions, so those are a lot of fun. The performances and reunions are free, but they’re also raising money for The Actors Fund. Now more than ever, the actor needs to help people, not just actors, but anyone in the business and their biggest fundraisers got canceled. A new thing they’re doing every Wednesday and Saturday at 2 is Plays in the House, where they will be doing a reading of plays with the original casts. The episodes will be on The Actors Fund YouTube, except the Plays in the House can only be viewed during the stream. Every stream also has medical advice from CBS medical correspondent Dr. Jon LaPook.

Bwayjackbox (Tuesdays and Fridays at 6 PM ET on Twitch)–recommend episodes- The second one with Lesli Margherita, Josh Lamon, and others, Smash reunion, and Team Starkid.

Broadway jack box is a fun hour and a half started by Andrew Barth Feldman, formally Evan in Dear Evan Hansen. The streams include Broadway, or Broadway adjacent stars, playing fun games, and the best part is that you can play along in the audience. I love it because it is a fun and relaxing time; the actors are funny, and it’s nice to see the comradery between the actors.  This is also a fundraiser for The Actors Fund. The episodes are later uploaded to YouTube.

MischiefFromHome (various days and time on Twitch)

This channel is for Mischief Management, they host various cons, such as Leaky con, Con of Thrones, and Broadway con. I will go to this channel for the Broadway actor’s interviews, so I recommend both of those.

What I’m reading

I have been having a tough time getting into books for the last two weeks. Today, I finished It’s A Whole Spiel, and I really enjoyed it. I hope I can finish more books as the month of April rolls along.

What I’m listening to

Again, this is coming from someone who really doesn’t leave the Broadway/Musical Theater bubble. I’ve been walking in the morning still, and I love it because it’s a great start to my day. Heavy in my rotation at the moment is Beetlejuice (the musical not the movie soundtrack,), and Six, I will dedicate a post to my love of Six soon, but the premise is that the six wives of Henry the eighth are back, and they’re rewriting history, or as they liked to call it, herstory.  They live in our time and become a pop girl group, it’s the best thing, and I love it so much. The other musical I’m very much into right now is Emojiland. I would like to give this show a separate post as well, but no this is not based on the movie of the same name. The plot follows Emojis in a phone who are waiting for an update, and a virus gets released into the phone. I am also enjoying the audio drama musical Little Did I Know. Three episodes are out, and the rest are coming over the next six weeks.

Top Ten Tuesday- Holiday / Seasonal Freebie- Memorable characters of 2020

Hi! Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by Jana  @thatartsyreadergirl . This meme was born out of a love of lists and bringing the book blogging community together. Every week, Jana will post a topic, and we book bloggers will post a reply to the topic. This week, it's a seasonal / winter freebie. I kind of went rogue in a way. In the winter you see the end of the year best-of lists, and that's exactly what I did with this post. You will find subsections to indicate the genre each book is in.  YA Contemporary 1- Pepper from Tweet Cute by Emma Lord Tweet Cute was a novel I read in September. I fell hard for the major character, Pepper. She was so sweet, and she wanted so much to lice her own life.  As a bonus, she baked, and I seem to really love characters who bake. Pepper made this list because she wanted to live her own life for her, and I really admire that quality in a person. 2- Sophie from 10 Blind Dates by Ashley Elston I’m in the middle of this book right now, but I ...

Top Ten Tuesday –Favorite Couples (Valentine’s Day /Love Freebie)

Hi! Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by Jana @ thatartsyreadergirl. . This meme was born out of a love of lists and bringing the book blogging community together. I love doing this meme because it gives me a chance to bond with other bloggers. Every week, Jana will post a topic, and we bloggers will make a post with our list on the topic, or a different one. This week it was Valentines / Love, so I wanted to do a post on favorite couples. I may have done a similar post last year, but I know that there are some new couples on this list.  1- Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy- Pride & Prejudice   This is the only classic couple on this list. I enjoy their relationship because the two characters have little in common, and yet by the end of the novel, they make it work. As you read Pride & Prejudice, you get to see these two find the love each of them was missing. 2- Cath and Levi–Fangirl One of my favorite YA novels needed to appear on this list. I love Cath and Levi becau...

Top Ten Tuesday - Top Ten Historical

Welcome back to Top Ten Tuesday! Our Host is Jana @thatartsyreadergirl . Every week, readers gather and respond to the topic of  the week. This week, we are talking about Top Ten Books in our favorite genre. I love The Classics, YA of all kinds minus Horror and Mystery, and Historical. I choose Historical as I talk about Classics and YA a lot on this blog. These are in no order, just as they came to me. 1- Romanov  by Nadine Brandes I read this Anastasia retelling in nineteen days when it came out. I loved this book so much! About half the novel was the Romanov’s in exile, and their life in a house where they couldn’t do that much. As the story progresses, we see that Nastya is a spell master, so this is how Fantasy is sprinkled in with the Historical Fiction to tell a new story. I loved all aspects of this novel, even the ones that were sad, and almost caused me to throw this book across the room. I will review this book later on this month. I recommend this for any...
