Broadway For The Modern Age

Broadway For A More Modern Age: A Look Into Broadway Musicals That Have Become More Mainstream.

Hamilton: When you think about Broadway that has become more mainstream the first show that you think of is Hamilton. This is a show that has been around for a few years, and it combines hip hop, rap, r&b, pop, soul and musical theatre. In this show we hear the story of Alexander Hamilton, and about his life and what he went through. We also hear about the things that he did for the country, and it is a great way that kids can learn about History, and what happened to help make the country what it is today. With book, music, and lyrics by Lin Manuel Miranda who also stared as Alexander, and based on the book Alexander Hamilton by Ron Chernow. The show has been breaking records at the Richard Rogers Theater on Broadway, and around the country as well as most recently on the West End.

Dear Evan Hansen: Dear Evan Hansen while newer than Hamilton, is still not the newest show that has become more mainstream. It tells the story of Evan Hansen, an anxious teen who was played by Ben Platt in the Original Broadway Cast who writes a letter to himself as an assignment from his therapist. Connor Murphy sees the letter when Evan prints in the school computer lab, and three days later Connor commits suicide. Evan says that he and Connor were friends to his family, and then he writes all sorts of fake emails, and it is not until towards the end of the show when Evan tells the truth. The score with music and lyrics by Benji Pasek and Justin Paul of La La Land and The Greatest Showman fame has been selling out at the Music Box Theatre on Broadway.

Spongebob Squarepants: The Broadway Musical. Based on the hit Nickelodeon show this the newest show that would bring people who really don’t see Broadway shows into the world of  Broadway. It is a jukebox musical, meaning that a lot of different artists and bands wrote a song for the show. The show features the characters that you know from the TV show but in a new way. Spongebob and his friends must save their town of Bikini Bottom from a volcano that will erupt in twenty-four hours and destroy the town.  The show is currently playing at the Palace Theatre. This is a great way that you can introduce kids to the wonderful world of theatre.

All three of these shows have Cast Recordings that you can buy or streaming on all platforms.

The Sunday Post!

Welcome back! Today I am taking part in the weekly memes  The Sunday Post hosted by caffeinatedbookreviewer and Stacking The Shelves hosted by .tyngasreviews . I have had a great time coming up with the updates for these posts in the last few weeks and so I will keep doing them. Life This week was crazy for me because I had a a work blog due. While I enjoyed doing the post, it was more research than I had allotted for, so I just needed to spend more time on the blog than normal. Other than that it was an easy week. I got some read in and I got a new chapter up for my fanfic. Yesterday, we spent a lot of time in the backyard and shoveling stone for the yard. Read I just finished China Rich Girlfriend earlier today! All For One Alex &Eliza #3 is still so much fun and I think it is my favorite book of the trilogy still. Currently, I am on page 184/391 I read some The Princess and the Fangirl and I am 50% done. Rather than pushing it for the next few days, I deci...

Hi! Jana hosts Top Ten Tuesday @ thatartsyreadergirl . The purpose of this meme was to bring the book blogging community together and foster our love of lists. Each week, Jana posts a topic, and we readers respond based on that prompt. This week our topic is a freebie, so I decided to make my list of my top ten reads part one.   Middle Grade 12- Never After by Melissa de la Cruz I'm almost done with this book. It's a duology, and I loved the new twist on fairy tales.    YA 13- Don’t Read the Comments by Eric Smith I read this early in the year and it stuck with me. This YA Contemporary about gaming and the culture of the gaming industry was fantastic.  14- The Book Thief by Markus Zusak It took me years to read this book but I really enjoyed it. I love the unique narrator, the characters, and the story.  15- The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas This is another backlist release. I loved this book, and I knew when I read it that it had the potential to be...

The Sunday Post!

Welcome back! Today I will link up to  The Sunday Post  hosted by  /caffeinatedbookreviewer  and Stacking the Shelves hosted by  tyngasreviews . Life This week was busier than usual because I ended up going to Peter Pan Jr rehearsals in the afternoon so I could  work with the music cues. The show opens this coming Friday, and this week is Tech Week, which is a four days where the cast will be able to work with lights, sound, mics, costumes, makeup, and basically run the show and get notes. The cast is 3rd-8th graders. I've been helping for years and I love it, although because I love Peter Pan, I have a soft spot for this show in particular. Other than that it was a relaxing week. Read I started Rich People Problems by  Kevin Kwan on Monday. I am 21% done, and I already love this book. I might not love it as much as I loved China Rich Girlfriend, but it's still early.  All For One was the plan to finish last week, but I still have ...
