Top Ten Tuesday- Holiday / Seasonal Freebie- Memorable characters of 2020

Hi! Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by Jana @thatartsyreadergirl. This meme was born out of a love of lists and bringing the book blogging community together. Every week, Jana will post a topic, and we book bloggers will post a reply to the topic. This week, it's a seasonal / winter freebie. I kind of went rogue in a way. In the winter you see the end of the year best-of lists, and that's exactly what I did with this post. You will find subsections to indicate the genre each book is in.

YA Contemporary

1- Pepper from Tweet Cute by Emma Lord

Tweet Cute was a novel I read in September. I fell hard for the major character, Pepper. She was so sweet, and she wanted so much to lice her own life.  As a bonus, she baked, and I seem to really love characters who bake. Pepper made this list because she wanted to live her own life for her, and I really admire that quality in a person.

2- Sophie from 10 Blind Dates by Ashley Elston

I’m in the middle of this book right now, but I know enough about the character of Sophie to add her to this list. Sophie’s story starts when her Boyfriend breaks up with her, and she goes to her grandparents for the Holidays. Once there, she is set up on 10 blind dates, over the next 10 days, giving off for Christmas Eve and Christmas day. Sophie is fun and she is kind to her family, well most of them. Sophie is on this list because both she and her story are fun. Her fun personality drew me to her character.

3- Maya from Yes No Maybe So by Becky Albertalli and Aisha Saeed

I read this book in March, and it was very good. What I enjoyed the most about the book was Maya, and Jamie, and how they were fighting for what was right. Maya was Muslim, and when a bill gets past that would hurt minorities, Maya does everything in her power to make it so they can reverse the bill. I admired Maya’s passion and fire the most, that’s why I wanted to feature her on this list.

YA Fantasy and Science Fiction

4- Alina from The Grisha Trilogy by Leigh Bardugo

I have talked about this trilogy a few times this year, and Alina will remain a character I enjoy for years to come. Alina is a Grisha, and she has the power of light, meaning when she focuses, she can make light happen from her hands. Alina is on this list because she is a badass, and I love the fire she has.

5- Cinder from The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer

Another series I loved this year was The Lunar Chronicles. This series follows Cinder, who is part human, part android, on her mission to survive. Each book in the series follows a certain fairy tale, and obviously, Cinder is a take on Cinderella. Cinder is a badass who will fight for the people she loves the most. Therefore I love her character, and why I put her on the list today.

6- Cress from The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer

This is the third book in The Lunar Chronicles, and the story adds Cress, who is inspired by Rapunzel, to the cast of characters you already know. Cress was so sweet, and she had little human interaction, because she was on a spaceship, mostly by herself, for years.   Cress is on this list because she is sweet and caring towards others. I admire these qualities about her.

Adult Contemporary

7- Mae from In A Holidaze by Christina Lauren

I read this book recently, and it was so good. One of the things that made it fantastic was the principal character, Mae. Mae was at a loss of what she wanted from her life, she wasn’t loving her job, her love life wasn’t where she wanted it to be, and she ended up having to move back home after a job didn’t work out. The only place Mae thought she could be herself was the Cabin, with others she had been with for years. This book is a Groundhog Day Style plot, and it just makes the story better. Mae is sweet, and she is funny. So I put her on the list this week.

8- Alex from Red, White, and Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston

I read this book over the summer, and it was delightful. I loved the characters of Alex and Henry, but I only wanted to put Alex on the list this week. Alex is passionate, and he knows what he wants. Therefore, he’s on the list of my favorite characters of the year.

9- Chloe from Get A Life, Chloe Brown by Talia Hibbert

I read this book this year, and omg it was amazing. Part of what made it amazing was a major character, who had a chronic illness, but she didn’t let that stop her. She kept on living her life and having relationships as best as she could. Even on her worse days, she was still so optimistic and sweet. This is the reason I put her on the list and why I will keep talking about her for years to come.

Historical Fiction

10- Jane from My Lady Jane by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton, and Jodi Meadows

I started this book recently, but I still wanted to include Jane in the list of characters. Jane is a fellow kindred spirit who is quiet, prefers books, and lives in a world where people don’t really understand her. I can’t wait to see where Jane’s story goes. She is on this list because she is a lot like me.

Top Ten Tuesday –Favorite Couples (Valentine’s Day /Love Freebie)

Hi! Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by Jana @ thatartsyreadergirl. . This meme was born out of a love of lists and bringing the book blogging community together. I love doing this meme because it gives me a chance to bond with other bloggers. Every week, Jana will post a topic, and we bloggers will make a post with our list on the topic, or a different one. This week it was Valentines / Love, so I wanted to do a post on favorite couples. I may have done a similar post last year, but I know that there are some new couples on this list.  1- Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy- Pride & Prejudice   This is the only classic couple on this list. I enjoy their relationship because the two characters have little in common, and yet by the end of the novel, they make it work. As you read Pride & Prejudice, you get to see these two find the love each of them was missing. 2- Cath and Levi–Fangirl One of my favorite YA novels needed to appear on this list. I love Cath and Levi becau...

Top Ten Tuesday - Top Ten Historical

Welcome back to Top Ten Tuesday! Our Host is Jana @thatartsyreadergirl . Every week, readers gather and respond to the topic of  the week. This week, we are talking about Top Ten Books in our favorite genre. I love The Classics, YA of all kinds minus Horror and Mystery, and Historical. I choose Historical as I talk about Classics and YA a lot on this blog. These are in no order, just as they came to me. 1- Romanov  by Nadine Brandes I read this Anastasia retelling in nineteen days when it came out. I loved this book so much! About half the novel was the Romanov’s in exile, and their life in a house where they couldn’t do that much. As the story progresses, we see that Nastya is a spell master, so this is how Fantasy is sprinkled in with the Historical Fiction to tell a new story. I loved all aspects of this novel, even the ones that were sad, and almost caused me to throw this book across the room. I will review this book later on this month. I recommend this for any...
