Top Ten (Eight) Tuesday!

Welcome Back! I have missed doing Top Ten Tuesdays over the last few weeks. Jana @thatartsyredergirl hosts top Ten Tuesdays and every week we join to talk about books based on the prompt. The prompt for this week is changes, and I wanted to take this as changes I’ve made since I’ve rebranded as a book blogger.  Enjoy!

1- Genres I never thought I would read

Before I was a book blogger, I would have never been one to open a book of the fantasy or a book of the Science-Fiction genre. The books that changed this were A Court of Thorns and Roses series by Sarah J. Maas, I followed the hype train, and I’m very glad I did. This series is one that I love and adore and I can’t wait to see where the story goes from here. A new trilogy I started in 2019 was The Folk of Air Trilogy by Holly Black. Heart of Iron and Soul of Stars by Ashley Poston are in the Sci-Fi genre, and I loved those books so much. What drew me to those, in particular, was the fact that the story was Anastasia set in space.  

2- I use Goodreads more

Before I became a book blogger, I would not use Goodreads as much as I do now. I thought it would be okay if I didn’t add the book, or if I forgot to give a reading or a short review of the novel. Now, I update my Goodreads after every reading session. I am active in the community so I can add new books and meet new people. Groups are an aspect of Goodreads that I use more, and although I have used them some, I know I need to be more active in them. I love the community and meeting new readers to see what they’re reading.

3- Interactions on social media

Pre-book blogging, I might interact with a person or two on social media about books. I was not active on twitter or following many books and authors. Currently, I am more active on twitter, reading book riot posts, and talking to others on Twitter and Instagram. Interactions with other fans are so much fun, and I love talking about books in a more casual way on Social Media.

4- I write more reviews

Before, I would write a sentence or two on Goodreads to do my duty of finishing a book. In my head, I wanted to do something because I might have had a thought or two. Becoming a book blogger has caused me to have more thoughts and analyze books more. The formatting of my reviews has changed, and I am happy my reviews have evolved into a better method.  

5- I’m more vocal about my bookish opinions

This goes hand in hand with the two above. I used to only say a thought or two in a tweet, on Tumblr, or when a person in real life asked me.  Now, I talk more about books if it’s on twitter or a blog post here; I am more vocal about my opinions about characters or books in general. Having this opportunity for discussion is fantastic to me because I love these general posts about my love for books.  

 6- I do discussion and book tags

Discussion and book tags are something I would have never thought of before I was a book blogger. I was a person who loved books with no place to post them. Book tags and discussion are some of my favorite posts to do because I get to let loose and give my opinions based on a prompt. Posts like this remain some of my favorites because it’s not a meme like this, but it’s still based on prompts and it causes me to think about my responses.

7- I have given myself more time to read

Reading time as I call it before I became a book blogger I would read like once every few days based on my personal time. An hour or two most days is now the norm or the more common. I need more time because I’m reading as much as I can in the allotted time, and I just love getting more time to read.

8- Books have introduced me to new authors I love

Going hand in hand with new genres, I also have found new authors I love. Sarah J. Maas and Ashley Poston are now two writers I will read everything they produce. If I didn’t have a blog or a post where I came across Heart of Iron, I would have never found them. Of course, there are more authors on the list, but these two are ones that stand out.
