In case you're a new reader I did National Novel Writing Month this past November, and I am putting bits of the story up as I edit it.
Chapter 10
Date: November 10th 2013
Today was the day that Phoebe and Rhi were going to hang out, and Phoebe couldn’t wait because Rhi had told her that she had news and Phoebe wanted to know what it was, it must be good news she thought. The funny thing was that Phoebe hoped this it wasn’t something like that Rhi was leaving, because she wouldn’t be able to take that it would destroy her if her best friend left. It was Sunday and so at least if it was news that she didn’t like she could spend some last times with her, and yes she was thinking of the worst case scenario because that’s what she did. Nothing would make her more upset than if Phoebe had done something to ruin the friendship, and she was going through her mind trying to think of something that she could have done, and she was coming up blank and so it couldn’t be that. What the thing was that she hoped this was good news and not bad news, but her mind was still going to the fact that it could be bad news and this was making her worry more. Phoebe needed something to distract herself, but it wasn’t really working and so she was just sitting here worrying about what Rhi was going to say to her today. Happy things she needed to think of happy things, maybe it was that her parents were expanding their store or something that would be very good news. Everyone in Omaha that went to her mother’s bakery really loved the food there, and so that must be it nothing really sad about that but Rhi didn’t give any sort or indication as to what the news was.
On the other side of the room, Lizzie was preparing for her day with Anya, and she didn’t want Rhi to leave both because she knew how happy Rhi made her sister, and in a way, she would miss her as well. Lizzie was trying to keep her mind off of the fact that Rhi could be leaving; because if she had thought about it then she would start crying and she felt like she needed to be strong for her sister. Today she and Anya weren’t really sure what they were going to do, they were going to go with the flow and just be with each other this was the way that they liked to do it. They liked to keep things light, and they didn’t really like talking about the heavy duty because that was not the way that they rolled, and the odd thing was that people might think were abnormal of the two of them. Usually, the two of them just talked about what was on their minds, but today she really didn’t want to do that because she didn’t want to get her mind into that space. Right now Lizzie was trying to think of topics that they could talk about, or thing that they could do that would keep her mind off of the news that Rhi was going to tell Phoebe. She knew that she wasn’t as close with Rhi as her sister was, and truthfully they didn’t really talk all that much but that didn't mean that she wouldn’t miss her if she moved away. Lizzie would find out sooner or later she was sure, and so she just had to wait until her sister had come home and told her what the news was.

A few hours later Phoebe was at Rhi’s house and she so much just wanted to hear what the news was, and so that way she would know what was going on and she could react accordingly. Phoebe wouldn’t judge her reaction to the news; until she had heard what the news was and then she would try and not over think it but she would just feel, and hopefully she wouldn’t start crying right here right now that would be bad.
“Okay Phoebe I don’t know how you want to do this, do you want me to tell you the news now or when you leave here later it’s up to you.” It was up to her, and in her mind, she was trying to think of the way that she wanted this day to go, she could hear the news now and that way she would know or she should hear the news later and that way they could have the day to do whatever they wanted. In her heart of hearts she knew that she wanted to know now, but the conundrum was did she want to just spend the day with her and then know, she wasn’t sure and she was trying to decide here what she wanted to do.
“Okay I would like to know the news now and that that way I know what it is, and I can stop worrying about what the news might be I just really need to know what you have to tell me.” At this Phoebe looked at Rhi wondering if this would be okay with her, or if she wanted to do it the other way, she did ask her what she wanted to do and that was the important thing was that she asked her and she responded. While she was waiting to hear what this news was, Phoebe was going back and forth in her mind trying to judge what the news was based on the way that Rhi was acting.
Now that Rhi knew what Phoebe wanted to do she had to judge the best way to tell her this, it was big news but she was one that didn’t want to beat around the bush about it, the odd thing was that Rhi had thought that she was going to say that she wanted it the other way around, but she could work with this way as well.
“Okay so I’m really not sure the best way to tell you this, but I’ve done a lot of research about it and I was talking to my parents about it so the best thing to do is just tell you I’m asexual and I only like girls.” There she said it and now she had to wait and see what the reaction would be, in her mind she had imagined her not liking her because of the way that she was or if she would be okay with it.
“I think I know what the liking only girls means, it means that you only like girls’ romantically right but what does the asexual part mean?” Now that she knew and it was good news, to her it was good news and she wanted to talk about what the news was with her, but she wouldn’t be having any more anxiety about it anymore.
“Yes it means that I only like girls romantically, it’s calling being a lesbian or being homosexual but mostly we’re just called lesbians, the thing of it is that asexual means that I don’t have sexual feelings or desires.” Now that she knew, and the fact that she was still here was a very good sign to Rhi to her it meant that she didn’t hate the fact that she had just told her this. Maybe this was all in her head, and maybe Phoebe wouldn’t hate her the way that she has pictured in her head maybe she be like her parents.
“I’m fine knowing this about you Rhi but I’m glad that you told me, and I really do love that you had the need to tell me this even though it is personal, I still love you now and always” and Phoebe gave Rhi a hug. Phoebe still really had questions about what was going on, but she didn’t want to push anything as long as Rhi didn’t want to talk any more about it, they could talk about something else. She was now waiting to see if Rhi wanted to keep on talking about what was going on with her, but she didn’t want to push it she didn’t know how much Rhi wanted to talk about it today.
“Now that I told you, and that I answered your question do you want to keep talking about it, or do you want to move onto talking about something else” Rhi looked at her wondering what she would say. While she did have more questions, or she would eventually they weren’t coming to her right now she did just want to move on.
“I do have more questions, or I will at some point but they aren’t coming to me right now and so I am okay with just talking about anything that you want to talk about.” Anyone that had just heard the kind of new that Phoebe had just heard would have questions, and eventually, she would answer them but she was so happy to move on now, and she even had topics in her head that she pre-planned for before or after she said the news.
“Okay so I had actually thought of different topics to discuss after I told you the news, I wasn’t sure what you would be picking as to when you wanted to hear the news, what are your thoughts on the Twilight series so far: favorite character, favorite book, and do you like Bella with Edward or Jacob more?” Rhi looked at her wondering what she would say, and she knew that they had both started reading the books because Lizzie recommend it them, but she still wanted to talk about them.
“My favorite character is a tie between Bella and Alice I can’t pick between those two what about you,” as with most adaptations Phoebe thought that the books were better than the movies.
“I’m the same way I really can’t pick between Alice and Bella,” Rhi loved that they both agreed with each other on this and she smiled.
“As for my favorite book I really loved Breaking Dawn the best, I know that it was the last book of the series but I think that it had the best plot of all four books, what about you” she looked at Rhi wondering if they would agree again.
“For me, the best book was also Breaking Dawn, like you, I know that it was the last book but it was the best-written book of the four like you said” they had agreed again and Rhi thought they would agree about the last part.
“I really like Bella with Edward, I think it’s mainly because I see the chemistry between them, and he is the one that I would pick for me what about you” she looked at her not sure if they would agree again.
“I also think that she is better with Edward, and like you, I see the chemistry between them and I think that I would choose him as well.”
The next topic is something that could get a little more about because they had both loved Disney animated movies, and so the questions getting answered were going to go on for longer she thought.
“Ok, so next topic: your favorite Disney animated movie, favorite Disney characters one male one female, and your favorite song from a Disney movie” Rhi looked at her and hoped that this topic would be okay.
“My favorite Disney movie is Beauty and The Beast because I love the story behind it what about you,” Phoebe loved that they were talking about Disney movies now. “My favorite Disney movies are: The Little Mermaid, Hercules, and The Hunchback Of Notre Dame” Rhi looked at Phoebe and saw that she was nodding, she enjoyed the confirmation that she loved those as well. “As far as a favorite character I have to give it to both Belle from Beauty and The Beast, and Meg from Hercules because I feel like they’re both like me what about you,” Phoebe was sure she knew what the answer was going to be but she wanted to make sure.
“For me, it’s Ariel and Meg because I’ve loved them from the day I saw those two movies,” Rhi thought that Phoebe knew this about her but she answered anyway. “As far as songs for me I love a lot of the songs, but I really like I Won’t Say I’m In Love from Hercules what about you” she looked at her wondering.
“For me, I have to say it’s Part Of Your World from The Little Mermaid,” although Phoebe also knew that Rhi loved everything about the movie Hercules.
As much as she was trying to keep it light Phoebe was having questions in her mind, but they were mostly that she wanted Rhi to know that she was there for her, if she needed support she was there. The thing of it was that she didn’t know how she could say this in a way that made sense, but if she didn’t tell her that she had her support today then she might regret not telling her.
“ Rhi going back what we were talking about earlier, you have my support and I’m here for you if you ever need to talk” she looked at her hoping this was okay, and she just wanted to get it out in the open. Rhi loved that she had her friends support, she didn’t have any siblings and so Rhi was like a sister to her, more than a friend she was like the sister that she always wanted.
“I love that I have your support, and yeah someday I may come to you and talk to you about it” she hugged her friend so thankful to hear what she said. A few hours later Phoebe went home, but the two of them hadn't done that much else that day.

Today Lizzie hoped that Anya wouldn’t mind if they kept it lighter in terms of the conversation that they had, she was going nuts not knowing what the news that Rhi told Phoebe was. She did have her phone, but Phoebe was probably waiting until were home that night to tell her what the news was, and so until then, she would just worry about what Rhi had told her sister today. “Hey Anya what do you want to do today,” Anya was the one who asked Lizzie to come over today and just because Lizzie wasn’t herself, it didn’t mean that Anya should have to change what she wanted to do.
“It’s mostly up to you what we talk about, but I thought that we could spend the day just talking” Anya would tell that her friend wasn’t herself today but maybe she didn’t want to talk about it. The fact that the room was quiet right now was the answer, no Lizzie was not herself but she also might not want to talk about what was going on with her. The funny thing was that Lizzie was fine with talking, it would keep her mind off of what her sister might tell her later, but she didn’t know what kind of talking that she wanted to do. Movies, comics, and tv were always a good option and they each had the same taste in movies and TV shows. Just sitting here was not the answer, Lizzie wanted to do something anything that would take her mind off of the news that Rhi had said, and the fact that her sister could be losing one of her best friends.
“Ok, so Harry Potter which books is your favorite, who is your favorite character, and what house do you think that you belong in” Lizzie looked at her wondering what Anya would say.
“My favorite book is Deathly Hallows because although I thought they all had a great story that book to me has the best story in all of the series,” Anya wasn’t sure what Lizzie was going to say to this but she loved that they were talking about it.
“My favorite is Deathly Hallows as well because like you said I think that it has the best story of any of the Harry Potter books,” Lizzie was very happy that they agreed on this although she would have been okay if they didn’t.
“ My favorite character is Ron I know he’s not in the house where I put myself, but I just love that way that he is written in the story” Lizzie wasn’t sure if Anya would say anything to this or not.
“As for my house, I would put myself into Slytherin and Pottermore did as well,” Know what she knew about Lizzie she thought that Lizzie would also be sorted into Slytherin.
“I would also put myself into Slytherin and Pottermore did as well,” Lizzie loved that for the most part, they agreed when it came to Harry Potter.
The next thing that they wanted to talk about she wasn’t sure but she felt that she owed her friend an explanation as to why she was not herself today, she needed to tell her friend because she should know. How that was the question how was she going to tell her what was going on in her mind, and she thought that Anya deserved to know why she was not like herself today.
“ Anya in case you’re wondering why I’m not really acting like myself today Rhi is telling Phoebe some news today, I don’t know what it is but I am really worried about what the news might be.” After she said this she looked at her, not knowing what she was going to say to this, but at least she had told her friend what was going on so that she knew what was going on.
“I was wondering what was going on, because yes I did see that you were different from the way that you usually are and now I know, and also I get it I get why you’re acting the way that you are I would as well.” Anya wasn’t one that was really close with Rhiannon, as a matter of fact, she didn’t even call her Rhi, but she knew how much Rhi meant to Lizzie’s sister.
“I’m glad that you understand, I still wanted to come over and see you today even though I don’t know what the news is, I think that Phoebe is waiting until we get home to tell me what is going on.”
Now that she knew Lizzie kind of just wanted to move on unless Anya was one that wanted to talk about it more, they could talk about anything they wanted she just hoped that it would be something that wasn’t this.
“I know you most likely watched Glee this week, but in general who is your favorite character, what is your favorite season, and what is your favorite episode” Anya looked, Lizzie, not sure if she wanted to move or on not but she thought this was the best thing. Lizzie smiled she so badly wanted to move on from thinking about, and talking about the news that Rhi was going to tell her sister”I really like Rachel Berry I think she’s like me.”
“I really like Rachel Berry as well, and you’re right she reminds me of you as well I mean that in a good way” Anya made sure that Lizzie knew what she meant in a good way. “As for favorite season I really liked season one, back when the show was fresh and new” It was known that Lizzie wasn’t as big of a fan of the show now.
“ I like this season the best because although we don’t see as much of Rachel, or the old characters I still really like the new characters like Marley Rose” Lizzie could respect that Anya called this season of the show her favorite season. “As for songs I have a lot of them, but one of them has to be when Rachel sang Don’t Rain On My Parade back in an earlier season” this was a song that Lizzie loved.
“That was my favorite performance so far as well, and I really thought that is what you were going to say as well” Anya loved that they both agreed on that.
The next few hours were spent talking about things that they both liked, but they were various things because they were still trying to keep things light and carefree. The funny thing was that they both wanted to talk about what was going on, but they didn’t want to make each other upset about it. How this would work they weren’t sure, but they both knew that they wanted to hear the news that Rhi had said to Phoebe but they knew they had to wait. This was something that was so hard for them, because when they both wanted to know things they had a way of just wanting to know things now and being impatient. The funny thing was that they both wanted to know, but neither of them wanted to call Phoebe to see what the news was she wanted her to come to them. After she looked at the time and realized how late it was she needed to go, dinner would be ready soon and she just wanted to know what was going on it would ease her mind so much.
“Thanks for today Anya I have to go home for dinner, and I will let you know what the news is when I hear it bye” at that Lizzie left and honestly she couldn’t wait to get home.

When the two of them were in their room before they had dinner with the family she so much wanted to know what was going on, she was driving herself crazy not knowing what was going on. Good news or bad news she just wanted to know so that she could judge her reaction accordingly and the way that it had to be, but she wanted to know if her sister wanted to talk about what they had both done that day first.
“Okay so as much as I want to know what the news that Rhi told you is, so that way I know and I can just stop worrying I want to know what you want to talk about first what you did today or the news.” Phoebe looked at her, not sure if she wanted to tell her sister what the news was first or if she was one that just wanted to wait and tell her the news next.
“The news might not be what you think, and I don’t know all that much about it but she said that she was asexual and that she wanted to have relationships with girls’ romantic ones I mean.” She looked at Lizzie not sure what she was going to say next, but she probably had to take some time and process the news and Phoebe didn’t want to tell her family she wanted Rhi to when she was ready to tell them.
“Okay, so I know what the fact that she only wants to have romantic relationships with girls means, but what does the asexual part mean, ” Lizzie thought that Rhi was a little young to say something like this but she couldn’t judge her for that. “Yea, I didn’t know what that meant either but Rhi explained that it meant that she didn’t have any sexual feelings or desires, personally I think she is a little young to say something like this but I’m not her” Lizzie then nodded when Phoebe said this.
Now that it was out the two of them could talk about what else they did that day; just so they had filled each other in on what they had done that day even though they didn't have the same friends.
“What did you and Anya do today Lizzie, and by that I mean what did you talk about” Phoebe had said this just to make sure that her sister knew what she meant.
“We talked about the tv show Glee, and we talked about what Harry Potter house we would be in what about you and Rhi” Lizzie didn’t that this was all that they talked about but she wasn’t sure.
“We talked about the Twilight Saga, and Disney movies” she looked at her not sure how Lizzie would react to this as Lizzie knew the feelings that both of them had about the Twilight saga. Lizzie nodded, The Twilight saga was a book series that all four of them had been a fan of and it was a way of bonding for them. Disney movies were another way that they all bonded over, and it was a way to get Phoebe and Lizzie as well as their friends talking. Just like Lizzie had told Rhi and Phoebe about The Twilight Saga, Phoebe Rhi had told her and Anya about Harry Potter. Glee was a show that they had all started watching at the same time, and it was a way that they all liked to bond and talk about the show as well as what they hoped they would do on the show.
