Broadwaycon Day 1

Broadway Con 2017
Broadway Con took place from January 27th-299th 2017 at the Javits center in New York City. It was the second year, and run by Mischief Management, co-created by Anthony Rapp. It was a weekend filled with many different things to do: a marketplace, panels, cosplayers, photos and autographs,  main stage events, sing-alongs, and fan meet-ups. The community of the actors and the fans was certainly something to see, and all weekend you could see actors walking amongst the fans to get to panels. I went for the whole weekend, and so I wanted to write about the panels and things that I experienced. It was my first time, and my first con ever.

Photo is with Iain Loves Theater at a panel.

My First panel of the weekend was “So You’re   Nominated For Your Broadway Debut.  This was a panel that was about being nominated for a tony your first time out, and it was a very fun panel. The speakers were Lauren Worsham, and Celia Keenan-Bolger they had a conversation with the audience. Celia was nominated for her role as Olive in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, and Lauren was nominated for her role as Phoebe in A Gentleman’s Guide To Love And Murder.    They talked about various things, such as how they were feeling and where they were when they found out they had been nominated.  I learned about them and what it was like to get nominated for your Broadway Debut, and it was them giving their personal experience. It was just informative, and fun it was a great panel to start off the weekend.

The second panel we went to was “Broadwaycon: The Podcast Live! Broadway’s Best Media Stars,” if you know anything about me you know why I went to this panel this weekend and in the grand scheme of panels on Friday this was my favorite one.  The panelist were: Andrew Briedis aka Annoying Actor Friend,   Laura Heywood aka BroadwaygirlNYC, Felecia Fitzpatrick manager of all things social media at Playbill, Gillian Pensavalie and Bianca Soto from Hamilcast, and Broadway vlogger Tyler Mount. The panel was moderated by Patrick Hinds host of Theater People, Broadway Backstory and the Broadwaycon podcast. This was less of a panel, more of a conversation with media favorites all in one room, and just having a conversation. Andrew and Laura talked about how they didn’t give out their identity till years after they had a brand, and a following on twitter. Tyler talked about how Gloria Estefan was his first guest on his vlog, and how he likes to make the celebrities you love seem like real people. Gillian and Bianca talked about how they started with not many things, and how they have grown into what they are today and how a fan of the podcast gave them money so that Gillian could see the show. Felicia talked about her job, and how much fun her job is as well as a bit about how she got to where she is. I learned so many things, but the one big thing is that if you want to member of the Broadway Media never give up

After I got my book signed by Jennifer Ashley Tepper we went to go find seats for the night entertainment. The opening ceremony was a skit and some songs that featured many of the people we love, and it was a lot of fun to watch. Next there was the Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812 panel here were had many of the actors from the show in the room, and they were talking about the show and how they became involved in the show. I learned a lot about the show as a whole, and the actors that   were in this show it was a lot of fun and it was very informative.  Twenty Years on Pride Rock with Julie Taymor and a man that we had in place of Whoopie Goldberg. It was a panel about the show, and how much the show still has many fans today.   The last event that we went to that night was the Broadwaycon Cabaret where we heard music from singer and singer song writers.   This was a lot of fun to hear some of my favorite performers sing songs that I hadn’t heard them sing before.

Top Ten Tuesday- Holiday / Seasonal Freebie- Memorable characters of 2020

Hi! Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by Jana  @thatartsyreadergirl . This meme was born out of a love of lists and bringing the book blogging community together. Every week, Jana will post a topic, and we book bloggers will post a reply to the topic. This week, it's a seasonal / winter freebie. I kind of went rogue in a way. In the winter you see the end of the year best-of lists, and that's exactly what I did with this post. You will find subsections to indicate the genre each book is in.  YA Contemporary 1- Pepper from Tweet Cute by Emma Lord Tweet Cute was a novel I read in September. I fell hard for the major character, Pepper. She was so sweet, and she wanted so much to lice her own life.  As a bonus, she baked, and I seem to really love characters who bake. Pepper made this list because she wanted to live her own life for her, and I really admire that quality in a person. 2- Sophie from 10 Blind Dates by Ashley Elston I’m in the middle of this book right now, but I ...

Top Ten Tuesday –Favorite Couples (Valentine’s Day /Love Freebie)

Hi! Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by Jana @ thatartsyreadergirl. . This meme was born out of a love of lists and bringing the book blogging community together. I love doing this meme because it gives me a chance to bond with other bloggers. Every week, Jana will post a topic, and we bloggers will make a post with our list on the topic, or a different one. This week it was Valentines / Love, so I wanted to do a post on favorite couples. I may have done a similar post last year, but I know that there are some new couples on this list.  1- Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy- Pride & Prejudice   This is the only classic couple on this list. I enjoy their relationship because the two characters have little in common, and yet by the end of the novel, they make it work. As you read Pride & Prejudice, you get to see these two find the love each of them was missing. 2- Cath and Levi–Fangirl One of my favorite YA novels needed to appear on this list. I love Cath and Levi becau...

Top Ten Tuesday - Top Ten Historical

Welcome back to Top Ten Tuesday! Our Host is Jana @thatartsyreadergirl . Every week, readers gather and respond to the topic of  the week. This week, we are talking about Top Ten Books in our favorite genre. I love The Classics, YA of all kinds minus Horror and Mystery, and Historical. I choose Historical as I talk about Classics and YA a lot on this blog. These are in no order, just as they came to me. 1- Romanov  by Nadine Brandes I read this Anastasia retelling in nineteen days when it came out. I loved this book so much! About half the novel was the Romanov’s in exile, and their life in a house where they couldn’t do that much. As the story progresses, we see that Nastya is a spell master, so this is how Fantasy is sprinkled in with the Historical Fiction to tell a new story. I loved all aspects of this novel, even the ones that were sad, and almost caused me to throw this book across the room. I will review this book later on this month. I recommend this for any...
