Top Ten Tuesday-Why I love YA Contemporary and Hisroical Fiction

Hello! Welcome back! Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by Jana @thatartsyreadergirl. This weekly meme brings the book blogging community together and fosters our love of lists. Each week Jana will post a prompt, and we make a post based on that or do our own thing. This week our prompt is reasons I love X, and I wanted to do a post talking about my two go two genres.

YA Contemporary Fiction

1- The Plots

I am drawn to a YA book because of the plot. I know that sounds clique and basic but I just don't like the stories in the adult genres. I prefer the YA plots because they seem to be more focused on the details, but they also move the plot along better. The few books I've read in the Adult or the NA genre are focused on the details but don't move the plots along as well. YA plots are a journey of ups and downs, and I love that about stories in this genre.

2- The Characters

As an adult, I love reading about characters in the teenage range because they remind me of a simpler time. I'm not saying the characters have it easy, but they don't have the struggles of bills and a 9 to 5 job like those in the Adult or NA genre. The characters in this genre are an escape from my life as an adult, but they're still written like characters in an adult book.

3- The Writing

Is it sad that I don't really know why I prefer the writing in the YA genre? At the core, it's a little easier for me to read than the writing in an adult book. I am not saying that the writing is too easy or too simple,  it's beautiful and complex like the writing in an adult book. YA contemporary has just as good writing as a contemporary adult book in my opinion.

4- The Romance

The romance plots in a YA book are just so cute. I love the idea of youthful love and young people in love. They have the struggles of adults and the drama of an adult relationship they're just younger and less experienced in love. Sometimes we get first love, which I find so sweet. The romantic side of me loves a great YA romance side plot.

5- The Friendships

Friendships in YA are so of my favorite things. Since I mostly read Contemporary or stories in real settings, I love seeing the friends just hanging out. The friends in a book I read are the support system, and they remind me of my own friends. Friends have their difficulties in books, and I love reading about those because it reminds me of people.

Historical Fiction

6- The Setting

Whether it's the U.S. or another country, I love seeing a new place I've never seen or seeing my country in a new way. Setting plays a key element in a Historical Fiction, and I love seeing how authors and characters will use the setting like another character.

7- I have a love of History

I've always had a love of History so I've always been drawn to a good Historical Fiction. I love learning about another time, or an era I might know all that much about, even if some History might be elaborated.

8- Learning about another time

Going hand in hand with my love of history, I love learning about another time. Some facts might be embellished or altered but I still love learning.

9- The Plots

I love the plots in a Historical Fiction because it's so set in history and the characters are exploring the world around them.

10- The Characters

I've always loved old-time characters and those are the key in Historical Fiction. I love seeing their personalities and how they live their lives.

  2. YA plots are awesome and there's so many different kinds- it can be contemp or fantasy or whatever. I love how diverse YA is that way! And same with the characters- I don't want to read about the boring adult world all the time. I can get that in real life lol. The friendships and romance too- I think it helps us remember what it's like to be young and alive, since those are such strong emotions in our younger years, when everything's new.

Great list,, I agree with all of these!

  3. Yes to all of these, but especially the romance and friendships. Those are two of my favorites.

  4. I like how you said YA's more of an escape, because the characters aren't dealing with boring adult problems like bills - I also like that their problems are often things that I don't have to deal with anymore, like exams and teenage drama!

2019 Book Resolutions Tag!

Hey everyone! So Thursdays on the blog I am going to post a new tag. I think tags are so much fun, and I enjoy the time to reflect on what I’ve read in the past, or what I want to read. Images come from Goodreads. I grabbed the questions from  this blog 1. An author you’d like to read (that you’ve never read before). Leigh Bardugo! I have heard such great things about the Grisha verse, so I want to see if it lives up to all the hype. I have a feeling it will, and I am intrigued by the world. I got the first three books in the series as one large Ebook , so I ’m going to start that next month. I can’t wait to go on the journey and be immersed in a new series!  2. A book you’d like to read. Romanov by Nadine Brandes I love Anastasia and the Romanov family. This looks like such a fantastic retelling. I am drawn in just reading the blurb on Goodreads.  3. A classic you’d like to read. A Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett. I’ve had the Barnes and Nobel edition of
