Graphic edited by me.
Hi! I read this book last month, and if you have been
following me for a while, you know that I loved it. Seeing as it is Middle

Characters
I gave the first star for this book for the characters.
The principal character Nat was so cool, and I just loved her so much. This novel
also has a group of supporting characters who were just as delightful as the
main character. Nat had a friend before she moved, but once she moved, she met
a core group of people who welcomed her with open arms. Like the book Fearless
by Mandy Gonzalez, this book had a found friendship group, and it was just so
cute. Each member of the group had an outstanding personality, and they balanced each
other out well. This novel also featured a group chat that had puns based on
the character's names, and this made my theatre-loving heart happy.
Plot
The story in this novel was also such a joy to read, and I
loved seeing the unique elements of the story come to life. This novel is
more character-based, but the plot follows Nat and her friends as they mount a
production of Wicked. I love musicals, but I have a love for the
musical Wicked in particular, so I knew I would need to give this book a
star just for that reason. The Chance to Fly is also a story of bravery,
finding yourself, and finding people who are like you, or at least ones that
share your hobbies and interests. I loved how much Nat and her friends grew as
characters as the novel progressed.
Setting
New Jersey and the theatre were the settings for this novel.
I’ve lived here all my life, and I rarely see novels that take place
here. The other setting was the theatre, and if you know me, you know I
love a theatre setting. Both settings are why I gave the setting a
star in my rating.
Writing
I loved the writing in this novel. I think the writing is
very clear that a Middle–Grade reader or an adult would really enjoy this
story. The writing was detailed, and yet it was easy to follow the plot.
Speaking of the plot, the writing didn’t take away from the story, but it
enhanced the story. With detailed and
easy writing, filled with theatre references galore, the writing has earned a star
rating in my review.
Enjoyment
As you can probably tell, I really enjoyed this book. This
book had everything I love: theatre, fantastic characters, a great plot, and a
wonderful friendship. These elements have earned this book a star rating
in my review.
