Book Info:

Pighearted by Alex Perry

Genre: Middle-Grade Contemporary

Publishing Date: October 26, 2021

Synopsis:

Charlotte’s Web meets My Sister’s Keeper in this charming story told from the alternating perspectives of a boy with a fatal heart condition and the pig with the heart that could save his life.

Jeremiah’s heart skips a beat before his first soccer game, but it’s not nerves. It’s the first sign of a heart attack. He knows he needs to go to the hospital, but he’s determined to score a goal. Charging after the ball, he refuses to stop…even if his heart does.

J6 is a pig and the only one of his five brothers who survived the research lab. Though he’s never left his cell, he thinks of himself as a therapy pig, a scholar, and a bodyguard. But when the lab sends him to live with Jeremiah’s family, there’s one new title he’s desperate to have: brother.

At first, Jeremiah thinks his parents took in J6 to cheer him up. But before long, he begins to suspect there’s more to his new curly-tailed companion than meets the eye. When the truth is revealed, Jeremiah and J6 must protect each other at all costs—even if their lives depend on it.

Reactions

1- This book doesn’t shy away from the intense early on. I was so worried for Jeremiah and his heart condition within the first few pages.

2- This is one of the few books I’ve read where an animal narrates a chapter. I loved learning about Jeremiah’s 1-5 from the perspective of Jeremiah 6. I find it very interesting that he is a pig, however, he has a human heart, that can save Jeremiah.

3- As a theater fan, the way that Jeremiah 6 was referencing Annie made me laugh. I love seeing references to musicals in books, especially when they’re unexpected.

4- Jeremiah seems so sad when he leaves the hospital. I wanted to be happy for him, but he seems so sad.

5- I love how Jeremiah 6 narrates his part of the story. He is a funny narrator.

6- I hope we see Jeremiah and Jeremiah 6 bond more. I really hope they can help each other as the book progresses.

7- I love how Jeremiah six is treated like a human character with feelings and emotions as you read the story.

8- I love that Jeremiah and Jeremiah six are starting to bond. I’m about 30% into this book and I love seeing the two of them interact better than they had.

9- I loved that Jazmine wants to be a doctor to help people.

10- When Jeremiah found out that they were going to kill J6 for his heart and give it to Jeremiah, my heart broke for him. I was sad because he finally realized what J6 was trying to tell him the whole time.

11- The scene in the attic with Jeremiah and Justus was so sweet. I felt that really told you about their relationship.

12- I loved how Jeremiah was going to save J6, much like J6 would have done for him in the same situation.

13- The scene in the Hospital with Jeremiah and his family broke me. It was so sad that he thought it was his fault that J6 left and that his family didn’t know.

14- The scene with Jeremiah, Adnan, and Paloma in the hospital was so sweet. I felt like this was all three characters forgiving each other, and helping each other.

15- I loved the chapter when J6 was imagining his future with Jeremiah. It was so sweet and made my heart so happy.

Reasons

1- If you love Charlotte’s Web

Charlotte’s Web was blurbed as a part of this book. If you love Wilbur and Fern from Charlotte’s Web you will also love Jeremiah and J6 as they have a similar relationship while still being different.

2- If you love books where animals play a large role in the story.

J6 plays a large role in this story, and he was a hoot. I loved reading how much of a character he was, and I believe if you love animals, you would enjoy this story.

3- If you love Middle-Grade novels

Middle Grade as a genre is doing some fantastic things. That includes this book and how the characters were crafted. I believe anyone who enjoys Middle-Grade contemporary will enjoy this novel.

4- If you love heartwarming stories with a lot of heart

If you’ve been following this blog for a while, you know that I love stories with a lot of heart that makes you feel things for the characters. Pighearted is an emotional roller coaster of a story with a lot of heart.

5- If you enjoy stories with both a heavy and lighthearted storyline

Again, these are the kinds of stories that I really enjoy. Pighearted had an even mix of heavy moments and lighter moments to show the fun sides of the story.

Our topic this week is Characters Like Myself. I am going to take a two words that each character has in in my opinion,  and discuss how that relates to me  as well. 1- Cather Avery from Fangirl Writer- At her core, Cath is a writer, and she loves her stories. I am a writer of both Fan Fiction and original stories like Cath so this was an automatic in for this. Both of us love our work and we tend to through ourselves whole hardheartedly into our work. Sisters- I might have mentioned this on the blog before but I have a younger sister and we’re only roughly 18 months a part. Cath and her twin sister Wren are polar  opposites and this is me and my sister. My younger sister is an extrovert and into science. I on the other hand,  am an introverted creative bookworm.  2- Miriam Kendrick from C

Hi! Jana hosts Top Ten Tuesday @ thatartsyreadergirl . The purpose of this meme was to bring the book blogging community together and foster our love of lists. This week our topic is a freebie, so I decided to make my list of my top ten reads part one.   Middle Grade 12- Never After by Melissa de la Cruz I'm almost done with this book. It's a duology, and I loved the new twist on fairy tales.    YA 13- Don’t Read the Comments by Eric Smith I read this early in the year and it stuck with me. This YA Contemporary about gaming and the culture of the gaming industry was fantastic.  14- The Book Thief by Markus Zusak It took me years to read this book but I really enjoyed it. 2019 Book Resolutions Tag!

Hey everyone! So Thursdays on the blog I am going to post a new tag. I think tags are so much fun, and I enjoy the time to reflect on what I’ve read in the past, or what I want to read. Images come from Goodreads. I grabbed the questions from  this blog 1. An author you’d like to read (that you’ve never read before). Leigh Bardugo! I have heard such great things about the Grisha verse, so I want to see if it lives up to all the hype. I have a feeling it will, and I am intrigued by the world. I got the first three books in the series as one large Ebook , so I ’m going to start that next month. I can’t wait to go on the journey and be immersed in a new series!  2. A book you’d like to read. Romanov by Nadine Brandes I love Anastasia and the Romanov family. This looks like such a fantastic retelling. I am drawn in just reading the blurb on Goodreads.  3. A classic you’d like to read. A Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett. I’ve had the Barnes and Nobel edition of
