Top Ten Tuesday- Books & Series I would give to someone who doesn’t read YA

Hi! Jana hosts Top Ten Tuesday @ thatartsyreadergirl. This meme was born out of a love of lists and bringing the book blogging community together. Each week, Jana will post a prompt and we readers will write out our list as a response. This week the prompt was Books I would give to non-readers. I want to do a YA-themed post for this week.

Contemporary

1- Foolish Hearts by Emma Mills

I’ve read this book twice now. This is an easy read for me and I believe others would find it easy as well. I think the gaming aspect and the fact that it covers actual situations will appeal to other readers. As a theater kid, I loved the addition of A Mid-Summer Night’s Dream, and I believe others who enjoy theater will love it as well.

2- Don’t Read the Comments by Eric Smith

I read this earlier this year and I just loved it. This is another novel about gaming and the harsh reality of the gaming industry. I loved the characters and the story and think others would as well.

3- Creekwood Universe by Becky Albertalli

You all have heard me talk about these books endlessly so they all needed to be on this list. I love them because they’re easy to read and they’re a mixture of light and heavy moments.

4- Percy Jackson Universe by Rick Riordan

Is Rick Riordan classified as middle grade even though by the end of the first series? Anyway, I think non-readers would enjoy the mythology aspect.

5- Heartstopper by Alice Osserman

I wanted to add a few Graphic Novels/ Comics because I know a lot of non-readers really enjoy comics and Graphic Novels. I’m in the middle of the second book on Webtoons. I just love this series about two British Boarding School Boys.

6- Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas

This book is all the heart eyes for me. The story is sweet, the characters are interesting, and the setting is unique. I think this is a book for readers who want a book a little off the beaten path.

7- Pumpkinheads by Rainbow Rowell

This is the other Graphic Novel I added to this post. The story is so sweet and I just love it, I think non-readers will enjoy the art, story, and characters.

Fantasy

8- The Grisha Verse by Leigh Bardugo

This is my favorite Fantasy series. I love the characters and the world set up in the universe.

9- A Court of Thorns and Roses and Thorne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas

I am putting both SJM series into one number. I prefer ACOTAR, but I believe others might prefer TOG. Both series are different, and both are very well done Fantasy.

10- Simon Snow Series by Rainbow Rowell

This is for all the Harry Potter fans who are looking for another series. I’ve seen this described as Harry Potter Fanfiction if Harry and Draco got together. I love them, and I only read one Harry Potter Book. I still need to read the last book. Hopefully, over the holidays, I can get a copy.

Comments

  1. I own the first book in the Simon Snow series, and I'm looking forward to reading it. I don't read a lot of YA, but so many great queer YA novels have come out recently.

  7. I had Percy Jackson too! I guess Percy Jackson is kind of like Harry Potter, crossover MG/YA as the kids get older throughout the series. I also love the Grishaverse. I'm definitely in the camp of preferring Throne of Glass to ACOTAR, but I know there are lots of people who feel the other way.
