February Wrap Up and March TBR

February Wrap Up and March TBR

Hi! I had a bit of an off month last month. I started off doing okay with reading every day, and then once life got busy, I just stopped reading. At one point, I think it had been three or four days since I had read any of my books. Also, blogging in the last month was kind of weird because I didn’t have the motivation to write posts. Anyway, I’m back and I have ideas again, I think I just needed the time to reflect. Maybe I’ll do a post on motivation in the future? I think that would be fun, and it would give me the chance to really reflect.

As I said in the intro, last month was a strange month when it came to motivation for reading and blogging. I still finished two books on February 29th. I had varying success with the two books I read, but I wanted to get my feelings out and warn people in case you wanted to read any of these.

Alice by Heart by Steven Sater

Edition Read- owned hardback

Read from–02/4/2020- 02/29/2020

Rating *** (3 stars)

I don’t know if I started the year off with a solid 5 star read and a solid four-star read I left Alice by Heart disappointed. As a fan of Alice in Wonderland, I wanted to love this story I did, and this started off as a four-star read, then took a hard left and made me feel disappointed. Sometimes I thought about DNFing this book, but I kept going hoping it would get better. The Wonderland chapters of this book were fantastic, and what kept me reading this novel when the plot got slow. Duel Timelines in a Historical Fiction is not uncommon, and I believe it can enhance the story if executed correctly. The London and Wonderland timelines were not executed well, and the London chapters were boring and filled with one-dimensional characters. Alice and Alfred were the only ones I cared about, as the others were just there to show that the world of the story Alice and Alfred loved, was seeping into their real world. The Wonderland sections were fantastic and filled with Fantasy.

Scarlet by Marissa Meyer

Edition read- owned hardback

Read from- 01/15/2020-02/3/2020

Rating **** (4 stars)

I did not enjoy this story as much as Cinder, but I still want to read the rest of the series. The plot was good, and the new characters were fine in my opinion. What I didn’t love about this book was the dual timelines, because once something would happen with Cinder and the Captain, for example, it would jump to Scarlet and Wolf. This was still a solid read and I would still recommend this series.

Yes, No, Maybe So by Becky Albertalli and Aisha Saeed

Edition read- owned hardback

Read from- 02/4/2020-02/29/2020

Rating- ***** (5 stars)

You know that feeling when you need to read a certain book at a certain time? This was that book for me. I loved Maya and Jamie and following along their life with them was a joy. The plot to this story applies to our political world right now, not just in the US, but also across the globe, and if you read the authors note at the end of the book you find out why.

Now, I used to have success when I would have cycle days, and I would read a different book for two hours a day, but every other day it would be the same books.  RC shows the Reading Cycle which corresponds to which books I will read that day.

Daily
The Grisha Verse by Leigh Bardugo (owned ebook) 23 % done
I don’t think I read this book last month and I want to get back into this world. Reading this book every day will be fun because I loved the world I just got distracted by other ebooks.

RC Day 1

Bygone Badass Broads 52 Forgotten Women Who Changed the World by Mackenzi Lee (owned paperback) pg 21/177.

I started this book today and I love it a lot so far. Mackenzi Lee brings a conversational style when giving the facts. The art of every woman is nice as well.

Anna K by Jenny Lee (owned hardback)

This is a new release which I will start tomorrow. I can’t wait to start this novel as I am very much anticipating the novel. Also, no, I didn’t plan to have both the Lee’s on the same day, it just turned out that way.

It’s A Whole Spiel by various authors (owned ebook) 57% done

This is a Jewish anthology and I’m enjoying it. Of course, there are some stories I am enjoying more than others are, but overall I love them.

RC Day 2

Don’t Call Me Crazy by Various Authors (owned ebook) 29% done

This is a Non-Fiction book about Mental Health and it’s very good. The book is composed of essays from authors and is Own Voices.

The Little House on the Prairie (owned hardback) pg 35/618

I am enjoying this Non-Fiction book, but other books distracted me last month.

Crescent City # 1 by Sarah J. Maas (owned hardback)

This is  another release that comes out tomorrow. I can’t wait to see Sarah’s foray into Adult Fantasy.

Top Ten Tuesday- characters that remind me of myself

Welcome back to Top Ten Tuesday! This is a weekly meme where readers discuss ten or whatever number you would like to have based on a prompt. Our host is Jana at  thatartsyreadergirl . Our topic this week is Characters Like Myself. I am going to take a two words that each character has in in my opinion,  and discuss how that relates to me  as well. 1- Cather Avery from Fangirl Writer- At her core, Cath is a writer, and she loves her stories. I am a writer of both Fan Fiction and original stories like Cath so this was an automatic in for this. Both of us love our work and we tend to through ourselves whole hardheartedly into our work. Sisters- I might have mentioned this on the blog before but I have a younger sister and we’re only roughly 18 months a part. Cath and her twin sister Wren are polar  opposites and this is me and my sister. My younger sister is an extrovert and into science. I on the other hand,  am an introverted creative bookworm.  ...

Top Ten Tuesday books/ series I would recommend to someone who says don’t like to read.

Hi! Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by Jana @ thatartsyreadergirl . This weekly meme was born out of a love of lists and bringing the book blogging community together. Each week, Jana will post a topic, and we will all make a list based on that topic. This week, the topic is Books Written Before I Was Born ( These can be books you’ve read or want to read! ) ( submitted by Davida Chazan @ The Chocolate Lady’s Book Review Blog ). I wasn’t feeling this, and so I went through and found a post from The Broke & the Bookish, and I did that. The original post can  be found here . I thought I would recommend some books from some of my favorite genres.   The Classics 1- Pride & Prejudice This is one of my favorite classics, and when making my list this week, I knew I needed to include it. The reason is that I think this is one of the best books by Jane Austen, and we use the story in a lot of modern media. 2- To Kill A Mocking Bird I was so surprised by how much...
