Hello! I know I say that I'll be more active and then don't post for a week. I have plans for at least two other posts this week though. Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by Jana @thatartsyreadergirl. This meme was born out of a love of lists, and bringing the book blogging community together. This week, our topic is a freebie, meaning we can use any book related topic, or even a topic not related to books at all. I picked to talk about books I've loved this year. I am including books I'm in the middle of for the sake of this post. This list is in no particular order.
1-House of Earth and Blood-74 % done- current rating 5 stars
I don't remember how I actively I was blogging about books in 2018. Anyway, If you've been following this blog for a while, you know that Sarah J. Maas is one of my favorite authors in the fantasy genre. I was skeptical to read this because I wasn't sure I was going to enjoy an adult fantasy. Anyway, I'm g;ad I deiced to read it because I have really been enjoying it. It's different from her other work, but it still has her tone and the vibes of her other series.
2- The Bookish Life of Nina Hill-27% done- current rating 5 stars
I started this book last Sunday, despite having it sit on my shelf for months. I feel like people aren't talking about this novel as much, but I have all the heart eyes for it. I adore Nina as a character, and if I make a top ten characters of 2020 post at the end of the year, she will definitely be on that list. I also enjoy the supporting characters.
3- Red, White and Royal Blue- 5 stars
Oh my goodness I was late reading this book but I'm so glad I did! If you have followed this blog for a while you know that I'm really one for a NA romance, but I loved this book so much! This book is definitely deserving of all the hype.
4- Cress-84% done- current rating- 4/5 stars (Storygraph let's you use half rating so this will be between 4.5 and 5 stars)
So I enjoyed Cress more than I liked Scarlet, and the first 100 pages or so, I was without a doubt going to give this book a 5 star rating. There was a section in the middle where I wanted some action, but I don't want to DNF the book entirely. I am enjoying the book more now, I just wish we didn't have the slow parts in the middle to get here. I'll probably go in the 4.5 direction.
5- Yes No Maybe So-5 stars
I was so disappointed by Alive By Heart while I was reading this at this same time. Yes No Maybe So was a breath of fresh air I needed as I struggled. Jamie and Maya were such great characters and I loved following them in this book.
6- Cinder-5 stars
I finished this book this year, so I'm counting it for 2020. I loved this book so much. Cinder is such a great character, and I loved the plot. This was my first time reading Marissa Meyer, but I will be reading more from her now.
7- My Dear Hamilton-57% done-current rating- 4-5 stars (I'm really leaning more towards a 5 star rating, but I want to see how the second half of the book shakes out.)
As I said above, with this book I am planning to give it a 5 star rating, but I can feel a slow part coming, so I need to see how that goes. This is the only Hamilton related book I've read that discusses their kids in some way, and I love that. The fact that this story is from Eliza's point of view is one of the reasons I wanted to read this.
8- The Mark of Athena -15% done- current rating- n/a ( I feel like it's still to early to make a rating, but I did enjoy the last book.)
I plan to finish this series, and at least start Apollo before the end of the year. I'm enjoying this story so far, I just need to get to an action part of the plot. I'm so happy Annabeth and Percy are back together.
9- Get A Life, Chloe Brown -5 stars
This is the other NA romance I read this year. I loved it! Chloe and Red were great characters to follow.
10- Scarlet -4 stars
So I almost put two books here because I'm enjoying them the same amount, but I decided The Lunar Chronicles needed to stay together. What bothered me the most about Scarlet was the jumping time lines so quickly, it made the book hard to follow in places.
It's always nice to hear about five star reads. :)
