Hello! Can't Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme where we talk about a release that we can't wait for. Our host is Tressa @ wishfulendings. Formally, a version of this meme was called Waiting On Wednesday which was hosted by Jill @breakingthespine.
This week I am highlighting The Fountains of Silence by Ruth Sepetys. Information from Goodreads.
Title- The Fountains of Silence
Author- Ruth Sepetys
Expected publication- October 1st 2019
Summary
"Madrid, 1957. Under the fascist dictatorship of General Francisco Franco, Spain is hiding a dark secret. Meanwhile, tourists and foreign businessmen flood into Spain under the welcoming guise of sunshine and wine. Among them is eighteen-year-old Daniel Matheson, the son of a Texas oil tycoon, who arrives in Madrid with his parents hoping to connect with the country of his mother's birth through the lens of his camera. Photography--and fate--introduce him to Ana, whose family's interweaving obstacles reveal the lingering grasp of the Spanish Civil War--as well as chilling definitions of fortune and fear. Daniel's photographs leave him with uncomfortable questions amidst shadows of danger. He is backed into a corner of decisions to protect those he loves. Lives and hearts collide, revealing an incredibly dark side to the sunny Spanish city.
Master storyteller Ruta Sepetys once again shines light into one of history's darkest corners in this epic, heart-wrenching novel about identity, unforgettable love, repercussions of war, and the hidden violence of silence--inspired by the true post-war struggles of Spain"
Why I'm excited- I have not read anything by this author before but I am so intrigued by this summary. We have so much World War 2 era Historical Fiction but not this event. I am excited to learn about the war in Spain. These characters seem delightful and I can't wait to read more about them.
What a gorgeous cover. I've read one book by her and really enjoyed it Hope this one ends up being a good one. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteI like the sound of this one... thanks!
ReplyDeleteThis was actually my pick this week too. Even though WWII is my favorite era for historical fiction, I'm always on the lookout for interesting stories that aren't set during that time period. This time period and setting really appeals to me.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful cover, and it sounds like a great read! I've read a lot of historical fiction, but nothing set in Spain at this time.
ReplyDeleteI am eager to read this one too! It sounds so good!
