Top Ten Tuesday - Top Ten Books of the first half of 2019

Top Ten Tuesday 7/30/19 Top books for the first half of 2019 Hey! Welcome back to Top Ten Tuesday. Our Host is Jana @ thatartsyreadergirl .   This was a meme that was born out of a love of list and bringing bloggers together. Our topic this week is a Freebie, mean we could talk about anything related to books or reading. I choose to do my Top Ten books of the first part of 2019. I have some releases coming out later on in the year, which I am sure will knock at least four of these off this list, so I wanted to take the opportunity to feature them now. All of these were 5 star reads. 1- The Seven Husband’s of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid This book will probably not be taken of the list let’s be honest. I read this book in June and early July, I will be talking about this book for years to come. The writing and the characters are fantastic. My favorite character was Evelyn, even though she made some mistakes. Celia was a gem and I weeped when she died, spoiler alert sorry

Bookish Garden book tag (Bookending Summer)

Hi! This is my last post for book ending summer. When I saw this prompt I knew I wanted to do this tag. Our hosts for this event are  Clo@ bookdragons  and  Sam@fictionallysam . The original prompt was created by  readatnight00 . I will be doing a prompts for every flower, but if you click the post, you will find more. PETUNIAS Petunias are a contradictory flower that symbolize anger and resentment, but also the desire to be with someone because of their soothing presence.  For this flower,  pick the first book that comes to mind that  makes you feel conflicted enough to want to throw it across your room, but also curl it up beside you and coo softly A Court of Thorns and Roses.  This book was picked because of of the relationship with Tamlin and Feyre. I knew that this was a relationship that that was toxic, hence me wanting to throw it across the room. On the toher hand, at moments, I thought they were a cute couple who could make it work. I see the flaws in this thinkin

Greek Gods Book Tag

Hello! I wanted to celebrate the Hadestown Cast recording being released today by doing the Greek Gods book tag. For that don't know, Hadestown is a Broadway musical that is a retelling of Orpheus and Eurydice. The tag creator and photos are  here.   I got the prompts and photos from  here . You're supposed to tag people but I find that tagging people on Blogger is tough. If you want to do this, feel free to consider yourself tagged by me. A favorite book is tough for me because I have categories of books based on genre. I will say here that my favorite book is Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen. This was one of the first classics I read when I was my 20's and I love this story so much. Feyre from A Court of Thorns and Roses series. I love her so much even if she had made some questionable choices. She was my first female character in a fantasy I loved. Annabeth Chase from Percy Jackson is a close second. I have read a few debuts but I want to feature three.

Top Ten Book Settings I want to read more of

Hello! Welcome back to Top Ten Tuesday. This weekly meme is hosted by Jana @ thatartsyreadergirl . This meme was born out of a love of lists. Our topic this week book settings you want to see more of ( or at all). I did my own take on  this because I could not really think of settings I want to see more of. Some or most of these could fall under both. This book settings I want to read more of, feel free to add recommendations in the comments.  1- Russia I have read a few books that take place in Russia, both were historical fiction. Russia seems to be the inspiration for Fantasy worlds, such as in the Grisha Verse, which I will read at least the first three by the end of the year. What I want is a story that is set in Russia, a modern story perhaps because Russia always seems to be Historical Fiction? I'm of Russian heritage, and I just want to see this country, a major city like Moscow, perhaps?  Romanov by Nadine Brandes is my favorite book that takes place in Russia wit

Summer Celebrations (Discussion) - Bookending Summer

Hi! Welcome to post two of Bookending summer. I would like to try to  do one or two more than the required three. The hosts of this  event are Clo  @bookdragons  and Sam  @fictionallysam . This prompt was posted by Erin   @bluestockingbookworm . The event is a way for blogger to interact and talk about books as well as have other discussions based on prompts. Summer Celebrations The first part of this prompt asks if there are any celebrations you personally take part in throughout the season. Memorial Day is the official start of summer, and even it is in the end of May, I still count it as part of the summer. Every year, we gather at my mother's for a BBQ which is always a good time. The Fourth of the July is also in the summer. Once again, we usually gather at my mom's for a BBQ and celebrations. This year, she came here to my dad's,  and we had a really good time. My sister has a birthday in the summer, and so we usually celebrate with her in some way. Usually, th

The Sunday Post 7/21/19

Hello! So I have not been as active in the book blogging community lately and I want to get back into this blog with more than just one post a week here.  The Sunday Post  is hosted by  @caffeinatedbookreviewer . Off the blog I had a pretty busy week. Last Sunday, my dad and I went to a concert to see Caissie Levy, one of my favorite Broadway performers, and currently Elsa in Broadway's Frozen, with The Ocean City Pops. We had gone down early, played mini golf, and gotten dinner at a new restaurant to the Broadway this summer. If you ever find yourself in Ocean City I recommend KPop, we both had the rice bowls. The concert was amazing, and I  was so happy I went. The other big event was Jersey Boys in Atlantic City for my sister's birthday. We went to the show as a family on her birthday. I had a good time, but I feel that the second act of the musical could be tightened a bit. I was in a competition in an online community last week, and I had a great time writing blo

Top Ten Tuesday- Autobuy Authors

Hello! Welcome back to Top Ten Tuesday. This weekly meme is hosted by Jana @ thatartsyreadergirl . This meme was born out of a love of lists. Our topic this week is Autobuy Authors. 1- Rainbow Rowell Shocking I know. Just kidding, I have not read her whole catalog, but I've read most of them. My favorite I've read by her is Fangirl. I love her style and her way with characters. 2- Sarah J. Maas One of my favorite Fantasy Authors! My favorite book by her is A Court of Mist and Fury. I read the whole A Court Of Thorns and Roses series last year, and I love it so much. What I love most about Maas is her ability to draw you into a world and have characters you want to root to see win in the end. A Court of Thorns and Roses is the only series I've read by her.  Parade, 3- John Green I used to be on a Gilmore Girls forum back in the day, like over ten years ago now, I met and became close with a few of the members there. My love for John Green is all thanks to

Pool Party Booktag for Bookending Summer!!!

Hello! I am taking part in an event called Book Ending Summer. I had a lot of fun with the first event so I wanted to do this one as well. For those that don't know Bookending Events is a month long event with prompts, but all you have to do is post 3 blogs.  The prompts and blogs are here.  Theresa created this tag  thecalicobooks .  Let's get to the tag! OWNS THE POOL First thing’s first! If you’re going to have a pool party, you’re going to need a pool.   I will pick Rhys from A Court of Thorns and Roses Series. He has money, so he would have a very nice pool that should be able to fit everyone. Plus, he probably would own several pools, so it's even better.  HAS ALL THE BEST PARTY GAMES This is the person who is going to make sure all the classic pool party games are played! Jessica Stone from Geekerella and The Princess and the Fangirl. Jess might like to be normal, but also she is very fun and screams the life of the party to me. Also, seeing as she woul

Top Ten Tuesdays- Favorite Female Characters I want to hang out with

Hello! Welcome back to Top Ten Tuesday. This weekly meme is hosted by Jana @http://www.thatartsyreadergirl.com/. The purpose of this meme is to write a list based on a prompt for that week. Our prompt for this week is a character freebie. I am going to be honest that this list started off as my favorite characters. Upon thought I wanted to do something more creative and so this is female characters I want to hang out with. I realize some of these are classics, but I have a plan for those. I mean all but one of these to take place in Modern Day 2019. 1- Cather Avery from Fangirl I am sure you’re all shocked to see her on this list, just kidding. Anyway, I love Cath so much and I really have a connection to Cath as a character. Cath and I would go to the library and just chat. Cath and I both have a love of fandom and both write fan fics . I have never been to Nebraska, so I think it would be fun to just hang out in her hometown, and she could tell me all the coo

Musical Monday’s Oklahoma

Hello! As you may know, on Monday’s on the blog I do a series of blogs I call Musical Monday’s. This started off as a series where I would feature lesser known musicals I loved that others might not know. Since the creation of this series, I have expanded to musicals that are more popular and widely known. This week, I wanted to discuss my thoughts on Oklahoma. plot 4/5 Yes, I know that this musical has problematic plot points with Jud, which is why I docked a full star off my rating. Our plot follows two lovers, Laurey and Curly and I enjoy their relationship. When I go to a musical, or get into a musical I look for a plot element I can fall in love with. With the case of Oklahoma, it is the romance and the tale of young lovers. The other relationship in the musical is Ado Annie and Will, this is another couple whose relationship I enjoy. Family is a common theme found in Oklahoma with Laurey’s aunt and I love how much those two characters care about each other.

The 2019 Mid Year Freak Out Booktag

Hi! I saw so many people do this and I wanted to join in on the fun! I know it's a little past the half way point, but I still wanted to upload this booktag. What is the best book that you’ve read so far in 2019? This question is never easy. I have read many great 5 star reads so far. The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid. If you know anything about this book, you probably know why it was my favorite so far. I followed the hype on this book, and this novel is so worth the hype. I was feeling all the emotions at once. This was my first time reading Taylor Jenkins Reid, however, I was reading Daisy Jones and the Six at the same time. I still preferred the characters and the story of this novel. What has been your favourite sequel of the first half of the year? I’ve only read two sequel’s this year so far and one stands out as more of a favorite. My favorite sequel was The Wicked King by Holly Black. I know that some fans didn’t love The

Hello! As you know on Wednesday's on the blog I do Can't Wait Wednesday. This  meme is hosted by Tressa  @wishfulendings . Formally, this meme was Waiting On Wednesday hosted by Jill  @breakingthespine . The purpose of this meme  is to feature a book usually unpublished that we are excited for. This week, I am featuring Orpehus Girl by Brynne Rebele - Henry. Information for Goodreads. Title Orpheus Girl Author- Brynne Rebele - Henry Expected Publication October 8th 2019 by SoHo Teen Summary " Abandoned by a single mother she never knew, 16-year-old Raya—obsessed with ancient myths—lives with her grandmother in a small conservative Texas town. Upon arrival, Raya vows to assume the mythic role of Orpheus to escape Friendly Saviors, and to retur

Top Ten Tuesday-Childhood Faves

Hello! It's Tuesday again which means another Top Ten Tuesday. Our host is Jana -http://www.thatartsyreadergirl.com/. This week it was childhood favorites and I am so excited because I had so much fun putting this list together. Every book on this is a memory and a favorite from ages 1-12. I don't remember when I started reading them, but I definitely didn't put books from my teen years on here.  Full disclosure, the end of this list was books from my teens but I took them off because I wanted to feature more of my childhood. One small story before we get to the list. I had a tape, and it might still be around somewhere, but it is my god mother reading a story. I think they recorded it when I was having hip surgery when I was two or when my younger sister was born. I can't remember what the book was, so the book might be on the list. Another thing you will see is that my Grandmother gave a lot of books when I was a child, and that I read a ton of series as a kid.
