Top Ten Tuesday-Secondary/Minor Characters Who Deserve More Love

Hi! Jana hosts Top Ten Tuesday @thatartsyreadergirl.  This meme was born out of a love of lists and bringing the book blogging community together. Each week, Jana will post a prompt and we readers will write a reply based on that. We also have the option to go rogue and do our own thing. This week’s topic was Secondary/Minor Characters Who Deserve More Love, and I was excited to make my list.

1- Abby from The Simon Universe by Becky Albertalli

When people read the books in this series, I feel like they mostly talk about and love Simon and Bram. This is fine. I love those characters as well, but I also love Abby. I love Abby because she does theater, and she is a very sweet friend to Simon and the rest of their friends. In the later books, you see that she finds love and is true to herself.

2- Penny from the Simon Snow Trilogy by Rainbow Rowell

I know that most people that read these books probably enjoy Penny as a character. This is another case where the focus is on the main characters of Simon and Baz (I have not read the last book yet). I enjoy Penny as a character and I’ve always wanted to know more about her character and her story.

3- Piper from The Heroes of Olympus Series by Rick Riordan

I wasn’t a fan of the first book in this series because it didn’t measure up to Percy Jackson to me. I really enjoyed Piper’s character. I don’t know who fans focus on when they read this series, but I feel like Piper isn’t appreciated enough.

4- Hudson from The Chance to Fly by Ali Stroker and Stacy Davidowitz

This is a recent Middle-Grade release that I really enjoyed. Hudson is a character who helps the main character Nat, and I just loved his character. I feel like people who read this book focus on Nat because she is the main character.

5- Iris from Foolish Hearts by Emma Mills

I’m not sure if this is just a book that has been out for a while and just not talked about, or if people just have not gotten around to reading it yet. Iris is a great character, and I loved seeing her grow and change as a character even when I reread it this year.

6-Angelica from With The Fire on High by Elizabeth Acevedo

This is another case of the main character being the story of the story, and people focusing on Emoni. I loved Angelica and her scenes with Emoni were a mixture of light and fun and serious depending on what was going on in their lives at the time.

7- Henry from The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab

I debated putting Henry on this list because I feel like people do love him as a character. Then I realized that most people that read this book probably love the romance between Addie and Luc more. I preferred the romance between Addie and Henry. I mean, he worked at a bookstore, and he was so sweet. I just loved these two and think Henry deserves more love.

8- Amelia from Fat Chance, Charlie Vega by Crystal Maldonado

This is a release that came out this year that I read and loved. Amelia is Charlie’s best friend, and I loved the two of them. I feel like, for most people that read this book, the focus is on Charlie, but Amelia deserves to have love as well.

9- Mo from This Will Be Funny Someday by Katie Henry

This is another 2021 release! I loved this book and Mo as a character. Of the new friends that Izzy meets, Mo was my favorite. I feel like when people read this book, the focus is on Izzy.

10- Ezra from Felix Ever After by Kacen Callender

My last character is Ezra. I’m not sure if he should be o this list, but I feel like most people who read Felix Ever After love Felix the most. I enjoyed Ezra as a character because he was there for Felix, and he would stand up for him.

  1. I loved Luc more but I also adored Henry. The bookstore he worked at played a huge part in that haha

  2. I haven't read Rainbow Rowell in ages!

  3. In many ways I feel that Piper and Hazel both get the shaft when it comes to fans attention. I mean obviously everyone knows and loves Annabeth. And the guys, outside of Frank and Nico, are like a group of frat boys. Don't get me wrong, I love the Camp Half-Blood Chronicles , and would LOVE to see more about all of the characters.

I twisted the topic some, as I have trouble remembering secondary characters.

When you get the chance, I hope you stop by my post: https://readbakecreate.com/10-books-that-deserve-more-love/

  5. Pretty much all of these books are on my TBR so I can't wait to meet these characters 😍 I do agree with Abby, though! I think she was great and it'd be awesome to get a story about her. Great list!

  6. I haven't read any of the books but they all sound charming.

  8. I will admit, much as I do love secondary characters, from books I tend to forget them. I remember them more in visual storytelling (movies, TV shows). Still, someday I need to put this kind of list together because I know there's bookish characters I love, too. :) Thanks so much for visiting my list on this week; and for the kind anniversary wishes.

Top Ten Tuesday- Holiday / Seasonal Freebie- Memorable characters of 2020

Hi! Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by Jana  @thatartsyreadergirl . This meme was born out of a love of lists and bringing the book blogging community together. Every week, Jana will post a topic, and we book bloggers will post a reply to the topic. This week, it's a seasonal / winter freebie. I kind of went rogue in a way. In the winter you see the end of the year best-of lists, and that's exactly what I did with this post. You will find subsections to indicate the genre each book is in.  YA Contemporary 1- Pepper from Tweet Cute by Emma Lord Tweet Cute was a novel I read in September. I fell hard for the major character, Pepper. She was so sweet, and she wanted so much to lice her own life.  As a bonus, she baked, and I seem to really love characters who bake. Pepper made this list because she wanted to live her own life for her, and I really admire that quality in a person. 2- Sophie from 10 Blind Dates by Ashley Elston I’m in the middle of this book right now, but I ...

Top Ten Tuesday- characters that remind me of myself

Welcome back to Top Ten Tuesday! This is a weekly meme where readers discuss ten or whatever number you would like to have based on a prompt. Our host is Jana at  thatartsyreadergirl . Our topic this week is Characters Like Myself. I am going to take a two words that each character has in in my opinion,  and discuss how that relates to me  as well. 1- Cather Avery from Fangirl Writer- At her core, Cath is a writer, and she loves her stories. I am a writer of both Fan Fiction and original stories like Cath so this was an automatic in for this. Both of us love our work and we tend to through ourselves whole hardheartedly into our work. Sisters- I might have mentioned this on the blog before but I have a younger sister and we’re only roughly 18 months a part. Cath and her twin sister Wren are polar  opposites and this is me and my sister. My younger sister is an extrovert and into science. I on the other hand,  am an introverted creative bookworm.  ...

Top Ten Tuesday- Book characters linked to Halloween candy!!

Welcome Back! I know I’ve been saying that I will be back and blogging more. Life happened last week, I had an appointment last week, and I just got lazy after that. I’m planning to be back more this week and get posting again this week. Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by Jana at  thatartsyreadergirl .  This was born out of a love of lists and bringing the bookish community together. This week is a Halloween Freebie. I’m not into the horror or mystery genres. I wanted to do my top 8 Halloween candies and pick a character that reminds me of them. 1- Chocolate Rhys from A Court of Thorns and Roses series by Sarah J. Maas because he is smooth. This was a no brainier for me. Rhys is smooth, and he always knows what to say. He is charming and flirtatious so he was reminds me of chocolate no question. 2- Reese’s cups Claudia from Foolish Hearts by Emma Mills because she is sweet but has the determination to get what she wants. I read this book ...
