Musical Mondays - The Prom

For those that don't know I used to have a blog series called Musical Mondays. I have missed doing these, so I want to bring them to a new format which is not just me telling you a synopsis from Wikipedia. I have not seen this show yet, so I am basing all my opinions on the Cast Recording.

Background

The Prom follows Emma Nolan, a girl who would like to bring her girlfriend Alyssa Greene to the prom. With the help of Broadway actors and her school, Emma gets her wish. The Prom opened at the Longacre Theatre on Broadway on October 23,2018 with previews, and opening night was November 15, 2018.

Plot

I love the plot of this show and that it is original. The story is your traditional teenage women wants to take someone to the prom, but it becomes a whole new tale when you have two women. One thing that drew me to this musical, it differs from anything else I had heard or seen before. That Broadway actors are in the musical as well just adds to the already fantastic plot. This is a high school musical, meaning it is about high school students and takes place in a high school, and this show is very needed in the times we're in.  The music might be what captured my interest,  but the plot was what me want to explore it further.

Characters

It is not a secret that I look for compelling characters in a musical I can relate to in a musical. I love Emma and Alyssa and I love how they develop as you listen to the cast recording. I love how much Emma and Alyssa have for each other, despite the obstacles of Emma being out and Alyssa not being out as a lesbian, these two characters still end up together. I love the comic relief of Barry Glickman and Didi Allen. These characters are just so funny on the cast recording, and they're needed in a show that discusses serious topics. I love the ensemble characters featured in  "You Happened" and " Love Thy Neighbor".

Music and lyrics

One of my favorite parts of a musical is music and lyrics and the connection they bring to the audience. This is no different, I love every song on the cast recording, I have my favorites in Dance With You, Tonight Belongs to You, Alyssa Greene, Love Thy Neighbor,  Unruly Heart, and It's Time to Dance. This musical has uptempo for the light and fun moments, such as Tonight Belongs to You, and the classic ballad for the more dramatic, such as Unruly Heart. The music and lyrics work in such a way they drive the plot forward, and they make the listener and the audience make connections and have feelings for these characters.   As with many musicals I love the music and lyrics keep me coming back to this cast recording time and time again.

Sisters- I might have mentioned this on the blog before but I have a younger sister and we’re only roughly 18 months a part. Cath and her twin sister Wren are polar  opposites and this is me and my sister. My younger sister is an extrovert and into science. I on the other hand,  am an introverted creative bookworm.  2- Miriam Kendrick from C

This week our topic is a freebie, so I decided to make my list of my top ten reads part one.   Middle Grade 12- Never After by Melissa de la Cruz I'm almost done with this book. 2019 Book Resolutions Tag!

Hey everyone! So Thursdays on the blog I am going to post a new tag. I think tags are so much fun, and I enjoy the time to reflect on what I’ve read in the past, or what I want to read. Images come from Goodreads. I grabbed the questions from  this blog 1. An author you’d like to read (that you’ve never read before). Leigh Bardugo! I have heard such great things about the Grisha verse, so I want to see if it lives up to all the hype. I have a feeling it will, and I am intrigued by the world. I got the first three books in the series as one large Ebook , so I ’m going to start that next month. I can’t wait to go on the journey and be immersed in a new series!  2. A book you’d like to read. Romanov by Nadine Brandes I love Anastasia and the Romanov family. This looks like such a fantastic retelling. I am drawn in just reading the blurb on Goodreads.  3. A classic you’d like to read. A Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett. I’ve had the Barnes and Nobel edition of
