Top Ten Tuesday- favorite reads from the first quarter of the year!

Hi everyone! Welcome back! Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by-Jana@thatartsyreadergirl. This is a weekly meme which was born out of a love of lists and bringing the book blogging community together. Each Week, Jana will post a prompt, and we all will create a list as a response to that prompt. We also have the option to not follow the prompt and do our own thing. This week, the prompt is funny book titles, but I’ve been reading a lot this year. I wanted to do a top favorites list because I don’t know if I will talk about them again. Read on to see my top ten list! All of these books are 5 stars!

January

1- You Have a Match by Emma Lord

This was one of my anticipated releases, and I read it when it was released. I loved this story. It differed from Tweet Cute, which I enjoyed. The characters were great, and the plot was a mix of light and heavy topics. 

2- King of Scars by Leigh Bardugo

We love the Grisha Verse here!! Omg, this book was so good. I believe that Leigh Bardugo really hit her stride with the Six of Crows Duology and this one. The characters in this series are fantastic, and I love their stories. This book was fun because we saw a few different stories, and at the end of the book, they all came together. I can’t wait for the final book next week, but also, I’m very sad to say goodbye to the Grisha verse.

3- This Will Be Funny Someday by Katie Henry

This is a new favorite! I found out about this book close to the release date. I loved it because it was about comedy, so there were some hilarious moments. The book also had a friend group which made my found family-loving heart thrilled. This also discussed some heavy topics. 

4- Foolish Hearts by Emma Mills 

This was a reread! I loved this book the second time because I think I missed reading it. I love the found family and friend group in this book. Also, this book is filled with theatre and Shakespeare references, which thrills me. 

5- Don’t Read the Comments by Eric Smith

I read this book on a whim because I started a book in January, so I had an open slot and wanted to fill it for vaLITines. I love games and watching streamers play games, so this was such a fun read. I know I’ve said this before, but this book also talks about important and heavy topics in the gaming industry and online culture. 

6- The Indivisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab  

This book was a gem! It’s a perfect mix of Historical Fiction, Fantasy, and Contemporary. I loved the characters, and I loved the story so much. This was my first by Schwab, but I want to read more of her backlist now. I know that the reviews of this were mixed, but I was one that fell head over heels for this.

7- Fat Chance, Charlie Vega by Crystal Maldonado

I just finished this yesterday! This is another new favorite because I loved the characters and the story so much.  Charlie and her friends are so much fun, but they also deal with some heavy topics. 

8- Alex & Eliza by Melissa de la Cruz

Another reread! I think I talked about this before, but I’m going to do a ranked post where I rank all the Hamilton Historical Fiction I’ve read. I loved this one just as much this time, even more, because I was in the mood for Historical Fiction with a dash of romance. Eliza and Alex are such a sweet couple, and I can’t wait to reread this series. 

9- Fun Home by Alison Bechdel  

Omg, this graphic novel was so good and so heartbreaking. I loved it so much and I was crying by the end of this novel. I’ve loved the musical for years, and I was so happy to read the source material. 

10- Crown of Midnight by Sarah J. Maas

This is another fantasy. I love love this book. This plot was action-packed and the characters were so well done.
