Top Ten Tuesdays

Welcome back to Top Ten Tuesday! This is a weekly meme that is hosted by Jana at thatartsyreadergirl. Today's topic is things that make you want or not buy a book. I could only think of seven things that really want me to buy a book.

1-Cover Art

I'm a lover of some good cover art. If you have a colorful cover, or a design I love on the cover, I will also pick up the book. I love a good font on the cover; I need to make sure I can read the title clearly, but I adore a good font on the cover.

2-Synopsis

If I read a book, I will make sure to read the synopsis first. What I look for in a summary is for all the major plot points to be covered. I am not one  for horror or gore, so if there is a murder in the book, I need to know about that going in, so I can  out the book back for something. I love a good written synopsis, if it pulls me into the  world, I will continue with the story.

3- Recommendations from Bloggers, Goodreads, and people I know

If  a book rec comes from a blogger, I will look the book up at least if they have a glowing review and they love it, I will add this book to my tbr. I will scroll thorough Goodreads, and I will add books to my never ending tbr from there, based on people I follow on there. I don't really discuss books with people I know in real life, but if someone loves a book, chances are I will read said book, or at least find out more about them.

4- Genres

I am a basic sort of reader, where I have a love for YA, the classics, and Historical Fiction. I will branch out to Sci Fi and Fantasy, but I need a good plot and characters to draw me in. If I am browsing for books, I will  make my way towards these genres.

5- Auto Buy Authors

There are writers I love that I will buy anything they write. For example, Ashley Poston, Rainbow Rowell, John Green, Sarah J. Maas, even though I have not read TOG or Catwoman yet, Holly Black, even though I have only read two books by her, and Carrie Hope Fletcher, even though I have only read one book by her, and have one on my TBR.

6- Hype

I am a follower more than a leader based on my personality. So, if I see a hyped book, or a popular book, and  the book hits a few other checks on the list here, I will buy it, or at least I will read more about it. I am one that will follow hype until there is no tomorrow, but hyped up murder or horror books, those are a no go for me.

7- Series or companion I already love

If I love and adore book one of a series, I will keep on reading, or at least make it to book two before I stop a series. The same thing goes for companion novels, if I see that a companion, or a short story, for a book I love, then I will continue the series.

What are things that you look for in books?

Comments

  2. Someone else mentioned fonts on covers and that's something I've never really thought about! It does make a difference, doesn't it? I'll have to pay more attention to cover fonts from now on!

    Happy TTT!

Top Ten Tuesday- Holiday / Seasonal Freebie- Memorable characters of 2020

Hi! Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by Jana  @thatartsyreadergirl . This meme was born out of a love of lists and bringing the book blogging community together. Every week, Jana will post a topic, and we book bloggers will post a reply to the topic. This week, it's a seasonal / winter freebie. I kind of went rogue in a way. In the winter you see the end of the year best-of lists, and that's exactly what I did with this post. You will find subsections to indicate the genre each book is in.  YA Contemporary 1- Pepper from Tweet Cute by Emma Lord Tweet Cute was a novel I read in September. I fell hard for the major character, Pepper. She was so sweet, and she wanted so much to lice her own life.  As a bonus, she baked, and I seem to really love characters who bake. Pepper made this list because she wanted to live her own life for her, and I really admire that quality in a person. 2- Sophie from 10 Blind Dates by Ashley Elston I’m in the middle of this book right now, but I ...

Top Ten Tuesday –Favorite Couples (Valentine’s Day /Love Freebie)

Hi! Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by Jana @ thatartsyreadergirl. . This meme was born out of a love of lists and bringing the book blogging community together. I love doing this meme because it gives me a chance to bond with other bloggers. Every week, Jana will post a topic, and we bloggers will make a post with our list on the topic, or a different one. This week it was Valentines / Love, so I wanted to do a post on favorite couples. I may have done a similar post last year, but I know that there are some new couples on this list.  1- Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy- Pride & Prejudice   This is the only classic couple on this list. I enjoy their relationship because the two characters have little in common, and yet by the end of the novel, they make it work. As you read Pride & Prejudice, you get to see these two find the love each of them was missing. 2- Cath and Levi–Fangirl One of my favorite YA novels needed to appear on this list. I love Cath and Levi becau...

Top Ten Tuesday-Favorite online bookish resources for readers

Hi! Welcome back to Top Ten Tuesday. Jana hosts Top Ten Tuesday @thatartsyreadergirl . This meme was born out of a love of lists, and bringing the book blogging community together. Each week, Jana will post a prompt, and we readers will make out lists based on that prompt. We also have the option of going rouge and doing our own thing. This week, our topic is Favor online bookish resources, which is bad for me, because I will add so many new accounts for sites that look interesting.   1- Goodreads I feel like every reader uses Goodreads. I love it for the reading challenges and finding reviews, but I should use the community aspect more.    2- Barnes and Noble I love using B&N for books because I love supporting bookstores. I use Amazon sometimes, but that's mostly for Ebooks I want or daily deals.    3- Likewise   This is an app that I enjoy using. You rate books and other media and it gives you recommendations. I love it beca...
